Electronic Dance Music

Many people want to compose their own music since the start of electronic music era. The trick to compose this kind of music is to absorb and learn the sounds and the technology. The system you have to learn about is your DAW digital audio workstation. You can choose your DAW from any of the above workstation but the system which is good for the beginners is the ableton. When you are entering a new environment, you should absorb as much as you can. First thing it takes to compose electronic music is your gear if you are under budget of almost 200$ you should consider having a reaper or a cheaper version of ableton. A cheaper version of ableton will be good for the learning purposes. After you have decided your gear you should start experimenting. Start composing some music or recreate a melody which is already been composed and experiment with your DAW. He released five studio albums runs his own records company called fly eye records he has created many hit singles with many of the famous celebrities. His song “we found love” became an international success it was also his first single which earned number one spot in the US Billboard top 100. In October 2014 he became the first artists to post three hit singles back to back in Us electro music charts. 

Avicii 

Tim Bergling who is also known by his stage name Avicii was a Swedish DJ and record producer. He rose to fame by his hit single named “levels” after that he released his album called “True” that album received praise and found its way in the top ten in more than fifteen countries. The lead single of the album “Wake me up “topped many of the music markets of Europe and finished on number four in America. He retired from music in 2016 health and mental stress problems. He commited a sucide in Muscat, Oman on April 20 of 2018. 

KYGO 

Kyrre Gorvell-Dhall is known by his stage name Kygo is a Norwegian DJ and record producer. He gained attention from the track remix of singer Ed Sheeran the song was called “I see fire “it received more than 76 million views on YouTube. He has the world record of fastest to 1 billion streams on spotify. 

Tiesto 

Tiesto is the stage name of Tijs Michil Verwest a DJ and record producer from Netherlands. He was named the greatest DJ of all time in a public voted survey for a magazine. He currently holds the label black hole recordings which was founded in 1997. His career was launched by his first album “In my memory “which kick started his career and since than he played on several big events including summer Olympics opening ceremony. 

Robin Schulz 

Robin Schulz is a German DJ and record producer his songs usually consists of guitar riffs. He rose to popularity by his remix of the song “Waves “. He was also got nominated for Grammy award for best remixed recording.  

House music is one of the most popular genres of electronic music. Using all the beats, bassline and synthesizer this kind of music has a distant drop of beat. House music usually consists of instrumental music only with no vocals involved. The structure of house music consists of intro, chorus, verse, middle, verse, chorus and autro. House music is also further divided into sub categories which are highly popular as well and is heard worldwide. The thing which separates this type of music from other genres is that its sub genres are very popular and it has a mixture of different music types. It is inherited with almost every kind of music. Its sub genres include deep house, acid house, diva house, electro swing, tropical house, tribal house, funky house, micro house, outsider house and hard bag. All these genres are quite popular but deep house stands out of all. Deep house consists of tempo at a slow rate between 110 to 125 bpm it is an uplifting kind of music which is made by the mixture of soft key sounds, muted bassline and ambient music. Usually there are no vocals and if there are any vocals than they are positive lyrics. Deep house is becoming so popular that many of the people think that this is a parent genre of electronic music instead of being sub-genre. Other than that, many Dj’s now a days compose house music and all the genres are composed by them. There are a number of house music Dj’s which are quite popular now a days some of those artists are Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike, Calvin Harris, Avicii,  David Guetta, Swedish House Mafia, Kygo, Robin Schulz etc. The basic beat of house music is often composed among three different drum machines. One is the red drum computer, Kong drum designer and the NN-XT advanced sampler. Another important thing to compose house music is 4/4 beats to compose these beats 4 rhythms are used one is the bass drum which is the main sound of house music usually it is played 1/4th notes. Second one is the claps and snares it is added to create the synchronization to the drum track itself. Third one is Congas and Bongas provides track an African touch it is used to compose summer party songs as it gives us the summer feel. Fourth one is the metallic percussion it gives a Latin feel in to the song metallic percussion is usually mixed with some natural sound such as whistles. High hats and shakers are also used to fill up the empty gaps set during the synchronization. 

As said earlier Electronic dance music had failed to gain popularity in its own brand name but it was its genre or types which were derived by this style of music that gained success and fame. In early times it was only the synthesizer bass which was the key of creating a different type of music strains. Here are some of the genres of edm music. 

Ambient 

 Ambient music which was created by Erik sattie from France was a background music it could be played during the dinner. This music style basically covers the noises of environment. It would fill the gaps of silence occurred in our environment. 

Breakbeat  

Breakbeat music was formed by using several beats and unusual drum patterns. Breakbeat got very popular when it was used in clubs allowing its composers to extend their beats and show their potential.  

Drum and Bass 

Drum and bass also known as D&B is another popular genre of edm born in Britain in 1990 it was formed during the raves. It is composed by fast breakbeats and a mix of drum bass and synthesizers.  

Dub 

Dub is a genre of electronic music which has grew to its popularity. Music of this genre consists of instrumental remixes usually removing the vocals. Otherwise deep echo’s, reverbs or occasional dubbing of vocals is added extensively.  

Disco 

Disco is a music genre which emerged during the nightlife in 1970. A mixture of beats helps keep the dance floors busy. This music genre was made popular by Dj’s by mixing different lyrics and beats.  

Electro Music 

Electro music is a genre of music which consists of hip hop beats done by Roland drum machines. Vocals are usually not included in electro music if there are any vocals, they are often delivered with a distortion such as vocoding and talk boxing. 

Hardcore 

Hardcore is also known by the name hardcore techno. It is originated from Netherlands. Found in the raves of 90’s this music genre has high tempo which differentiates it from other genres. It consists of hard beats and high tempo. These songs are usually aggressive and violent. 

Hip Hop music 

Hip Hop music was developed in United states of America by the African Americans. It became an important part of their routine rapping became an important element with Hip Hop music. Scratching, rapping, breakdancing were important elements of stylistic hip hop music. 

House Music 

House music was founded in the state of Chicago by the Dj’s. It is made by using by 4 out of 4 beats, bassline synthesizers and drum machines. House music is consistent category played now a days because it has minimal number of electronic hard music and a touch of disco which makes it a perfect blend with its highs and lows. 

Techno 

Techno is the mixture of different genres of the music such as jazz, electro, funk etc. It was found in Detroit Michigan in 1980. Originally a blend of instrumental beats blended with jazz, funk, electro etc. creating an uplift beat. 

Trance music 

Trance music was formed in Britain. Maintaining a tempo of around 110 – 115 bpm this music genre consists of repeating phrases and music which slowly builds tension. This style of music contains 1 or 2 beat drops. Trance has incorporated properties of other genres such as techno. 

Over the year’s music has developed its own different forms. Many of the instruments have evolved in better forms to create better rhythms. Electronic dance music which is also known by its short term EDM is a splendid display of different music styles. Born in 1980’s this music style has got to popularity. The music produced in early 70’s also had a little bit of edm music they had used drum machines as well as pop synthesizers which played a vital role in development of electronic music. In 1980 it formed a proper trend in America’s state of Chicago at that time Chicago house music was of great influence in Europe and United states of America. From the start of 1980 there emerged a culture of private radios and rave parties which increased its popularity.  Club culture started to evolve and this style of music us liked by many people and was a regular in club charts. EDM had its fair share of popularity in Europe and it was growing by every day. It brought the dance culture to life which was there to be accepted universally. In 2010 EDM has widely spread to Australia, Europe, United states of America and Asia. The sad reality was EDM grew but failed to create its own brand name but instead it got popularity in forms of its genre for example dubstep, techno, house, trance etc. In early times this style of music was getting popular by the name of drug music when this style of music was been played in different countries of Europe a drug found its way it was a mood enhancing drug called as Ecstasy. People would use this drug and listen to the music and they found it quite mesmerizing (as we keep effects of drug aside). On December of 1987 Dj Rampling started a weekly party called Shoom which was later called as acid house when 303 bass synthesizers feature on Chicago house records. In London and Berlin after the acid house scene different genres of electronic music started to evolve producers mixed techno and with hip hop and Jamaican hall music the category emerged by the mixture of these music styles was called drum and bass. Another country which helped in the growth of electronic music was Germany in particular it was Berlin a city of Germany. Berlin at that time in early 2000’s after the Berlin wall incident many of the areas in Berlin were vacant.  Which was perfect for high range parties like London and United states. Other than that, the government of Germany were allotting easy artist visas which saw many of the artists staying in Germany and working out their music styles. Despite America been its birth place Electronic music lost its popularity in America but in the second half of 2000’s it started to rise again mainly due to evolution of internet where people can access many of the streams regarding music. Today electronic music is one of the most popular style of music which is been listened by the people across the world.
